Bargain hunters set to descend on Holidayworld

Billed as the show that "brings the whole world to your doorstep", Holidayworld 2004 opens its doors at Belfast's King’s Hall at 2.00pm on Friday.

Television celebrity David Dickinson, perhaps as well known for his tan as he is for his antiques know-how will open the show. The jet-setting celebrity will be bargain hunting amongst the hundreds of exhibitors who, together, make this Northern Ireland’s largest annual celebration of travel.

The show's organisers expect around 30,000 people will be taking their itchy feet for a stroll around The King’s Hall over the weekend of 16, 17 and 18 January, searching for their perfect holiday break.

Show organiser Edmund Hourican said: "Travel and tourism are emerging from what has proved to be a tremendously difficult period, brought about by a number of external factors. Perhaps surprisingly, those difficulties have prompted some benefits for the travelling public. Home holidays have blossomed in response to the air of caution which at one stage prevailed about international travel – while overseas destinations and travel companies have worked harder than ever to attract visitors.

"The industry is ‘leaner and keener’ than ever before and that positive attitude is reflected in some incredible deals and special bargains. When you see the products and prices on offer at Holidayworld, it’s small wonder that so many people are planning more than one vacation in 2004.

"The destinations, tourism authorities, airlines and travel companies are clearly united in their determination to service that growing market and to present a world of opportunities”

This year there are three shows under one roof: the traditional Holidayworld with its family getaways, inspirational breaks and traditional (and not so traditional) vacations; the Caravanning & Camping Show which is dedicated to the great outdoors; and a specialist Golf Show which celebrates one of the fastest growing sectors in the travel market.
