Convicted Killer Christopher Kerr Arrested After Going On The Run

A man serving a life sentence for the murder of a Catholic schoolboy 12 years ago has been arrested after absconding from custody.

32-year-old Christopher Kerr, who was convicted of murdering 15-year-old Michael McIlveen in Ballymena in 2006, absconded in Belfast City Centre while on accompanied temporary release on Thursday, 21 June.

The PSNI later confirmed he had been arrested in the Antrim area.

A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Prison Service said they would investigate the circumstances of the abscondment.

Convicted child killer Robert Black has died in Maghaberry Prison near Lisburn, aged 68. Black was serving 12 life sentences for murdering four young girls in the 1980s. Police in North Down are appealing for information following a suspicious fire at a community hall in the Skipperstone Road area of Bangor on Thursday. At around 9.00pm, petrol was poured over the door of the centre and set alight. A number of pensioners were in the community centre at the time.

Police renew murder appeal
Police have renewed their appeal into the murder of a man in Co Down last month. Andrew Cully, a father of two teenage boys from Greyabbey, was shot up to 10 times as he sat in his parked car in the loyalist West Winds estate in Newtownards on 24 March. Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw Mr Cully sitting in his car prior to the shooting.

Police have arrested two men on suspicion of kidnapping. The males, aged 33 and 31, were detained in Co L'Derry. It is believed there arrests are in connection with an incident in the city on Thursday, 26 October. No further details have been released.

A 27-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Anne ONeill. The 51-year-old victim died from her injuries following an incident at a house in the Ardmore Avenue area in Finaghy on Saturday, 21 October. The suspect is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 25 October.

Man Charged In Possession Of Heroin
A man is to appear in court charged in possession of heroin. Police arrested five people during searches of a property in Newry on Wednesday, 16 January. Two men have also been charged in possession of a Class A drug. A 50-year-old woman has also been charged with permitting premises to be used for the supply of a Class A drug.

Convicted Killer And Rapist Robert Howard Dies
Convicted killer and rapist Robert Howard has died while he was in prison custody at a hospital in England. Howard, 71, was given a life sentence for raping and murdering 14-year-old Hannah Williams from London. Her body was discovered in 2002. He was also a suspect in the murder of 15-year-old Arlene Arkinson from County Tyrone in 1994.

A man has been acquitted of killing a pensioner more than 25 years ago after the Crown offered no evidence against him. 53-year-old David Mayberry Wallace, from NI but with an address Shaw Street, Bury, Lancashire was charged in 2010 with murdering Stanley Close at a flat in east Belfast in August 1986.

New Arlene Arkinson Search Ends
A new search operation launched by police investigating the disappearance of Arlene Arkinson has ended with "nothing suspicious" found. Police had cordoned off an area near Killen, outside Castlederg, last Thursday. The area is close to where Arlene was last seen alive with convicted child killer and rapist Robert Howard.

A fresh search for missing teenager Arlene Arkinson is to take place in Co Tyrone. Ms Arkinson, from Castlederg, was 15-years-old when she went missing in 1994 after a night out in the Republic of Ireland. Her body has never been found. It is understood police cordoned off an area near Killen, just outside Castlederg on Thursday night.
