Emma Little-Pengelly Has 'Serious Concerns' Over Name Of Bus Stop

DUP MLA Emma Little-Pengelly has raised "serious concerns" over the naming of a new Belfast Rapid Transit bus stop in her constituency.

The south Belfast MP has claimed a constituent contacted her over the naming of the stop on the Albertbridge Road as 'Short Strand'.

Ms Little-Pengelly said that the name of the stop "does not reflect either the area or the history of the area in which the stop is situated" and was "clearly not a Short Strand stop".

However, it is understood that naming of bus stops are done in pairs, with country-bound and city-bound stops – which usually face each other – given the same name.

The stop in question is paired with one on the opposite of the Newtownards Road, and both are referred to as 'Short Strand' by transport company, Translink NI.

Despite this, it is understood that Ms Little-Pengelly has requested a meeting with Transport NI to discuss naming policy.

Ms Little-Pengelly received widespread criticism online when she posted about the issue on Twitter.
