Resurfacing Work To Take Place In L'Derry
Resurfacing work is to begin on the Caw Roundabout in L'Derry early next month.
The £200,000 project, starting on 02 September, will strengthen the carriageway and improve the running surface.
The work will be undertaken between the hours of 7pm and 7am and will last for four nights.
Some disruption can be expected for the duration of the scheme.
A contraflow system will be in operation.
Access for local residents and businesses will be accommodated throughout.
The work is expected to be substantially complete by 05 September, subject to favourable weather conditions.
Students And Teachers Commended On GCSE Improvements
Sinn Féin Education Spokesperson Karen Mullan MLA has said that yearly improvements in GCSE results gained by local students shows the commitment of students and teachers and the strength of our education system.
The Foyle MLA said: "Results achieved by local students in the GCSEs have once again steadily improved.
"The sterling performance of these young people is to be congratulated and celebrated. It also shows the commitment of student and teachers and the strength of our Education system.
"The fact that this has been achieved in a context of relentless Tory austerity speaks volumes about the efforts of teachers and public sector staff.
"Our young people prosper through the work of our teachers, carers and parents, and through their own strength and commitment to their studies. This should be commended."
UUP Congratulates Portadown Soldier On New Appointment
Upper Bann Ulster Unionist MLA Doug Beattie MC has congratulated Portadown's Brigadier Colin Weir DSO MBE, on his appointment as General Officer Commanding one of the UK’s premier Divisions.
Mr Beattie MC MLA said: "It is with a real sense of pleasure that I write to Brigadier Colin Weir DSO MBE to congratulate him on his appointment as General Officer Commanding 1 (UK) Division, assuming the rank of Major General.
"I served alongside Colin – a fellow Portadown man - in 1 R IRISH and under his command in Nad-e-Ali District of Southern Afghanistan in 2010-11 for which Colin was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO). Not only does Colin have a proud military background but his father, Herbert Weir, was also a well-respected teacher at Clounagh Junior High School, and in fact taught me as a young student at that school.
"I wish Colin all the best of luck in what will be a challenging position, leading one of the UK’s premier Divisions, just as he led their premier 16 Air Assault Brigade."

The party's Health Spokesperson, Paula Bradshaw said that gaps in data collection and reporting across the UK are "holding back Lynch Syndrome care".

Northern Ireland students have outperformed their peers in England and Wales in both A-level and the new AS level exams. Figures released by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) on Thursday August 16 show a record 48,000 grades have been issued to Northern Ireland students across all exam boards.
