South Belfast Burglary Suspect Arrested Thanks To Neighbour

A burglary suspect has been arrested after an eagle-eyed neighbour spotted suspicious activity in a neighbour's garden.

Police in south Belfast have detained a 20-year-old man "on suspicion of burglary and going equipped" in the Diamond Gardens area of Finaghy.

They say officers moved in after they received a call from a worried neighbour.

Chief Inspector Gavin Kirkpatrick said: "Thanks to a call from a member of the community, concerned about a male acting suspiciously in his neighbour's garden just before 5am this morning, police attended and discovered that the door of a property had been forced open.

"We located and arrested a 20-year-old male a short distance away, who is currently helping with our enquiries.

"I'd like to thank the quick thinking member of the public for phoning us. This incident highlights the value of good neighbours looking out for each other.

"I would strongly encourage residents to take this opportunity to review their own security measures and most importantly, to report any suspicious activity on your street, with as much detail as possible, straight away."

The police are asking anyone with further information on the incident to contact them.
