Armed Men Try To Hijack Car In North Belfast

A man has escaped injury after managing to drive off during an attempt to hijack his car in north Belfast.

The attack was carried out by two men armed with a knife and a dog chain.

According to investigating police, the driver of the Vauxhall Mokka was washing his car in the Dronore Court area, when he was approached by the men at around 3pm on Monday.

PSNI Constable Ritchie said: "Although the driver- who is aged in his 30's- was told to get out of the car by one of the men who was brandishing a knife, he managed to drive off.

"The driver suffered no injuries, but was left badly shaken and one of the men hit the vehicle causing a series of small dents with the chain."

One of the suspects is described as being in his early 20's, 6ft tall and of skinny build, with bushy eyebrows. He was wearing a baseball cap and a hoody and was armed with a knife.

The other culprit is described as also been in his early 20's, around 5ft 5ins tall and of slim build, with short ginger/strawberry blonde hair and acne on his face. He was wearing a light-coloured t-shirt and a grey-hoody and was armed with a chain.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw any suspicious activity in the area to assist with the investigation by contacting them on 101.

It was reported to police, that at around 11pm a masked man entered the Castle Street store carrying a spray bottle of an unknown substance. The man approached a cashier and demanded money, threatening them with the spray bottle.

Man arrested after armed robbery
One man has been arrested following an armed robbery at a petrol station in north Belfast last night. At around 9pm, two men armed with a knife and a handgun entered the petrol station on the Doagh Road in Mossley, Newtownabbey, and demanded money. They threatened a member of staff and were given a small amount of cash.

Appeal For Information On Aggravated Burglary In Cookstown
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a report of an aggravated burglary at the Queens Avenue area of Cookstown on Friday 3rd February. Shortly after 10pm, it was reported that four masked men entered a property in the area with one of the men armed with an iron bar and another man armed with a suspected firearm.
