Belfast visitor figures on the up
New visitor figures for the Belfast Welcome Centre have shown a 17% increase on 2002, it was revealed today.
The figures are a further boost to the city which has enjoyed a remarkable level of interest over the past year including being proclaimed the 'Best City Break Destination in Europe' in the recent Evening Herald Tourism Awards.
Commenting on the figures, Gerry Lennon, Chief Executive of the Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau (BVCB) said: "We are delighted that so much has been achieved by Belfast in the past year. Early indications show that 2003 has been an excellent year for tourism in the city, with visitor numbers on the increase.
"Belfast is becoming increasingly recognised as an exciting place to visit and the positive publicity generated by the awards we have received here over the past year has really increased the city's profile in tandem with the city's UK and Ireland 'Belfast Better Believe It' advertising campaign."
Visitor figures for 2003 are due to be announced by Belfast City Council later this month. There should show an increase on the 3.6 million visitors who came to Belfast in 2002.
