Belfast City Centre Footfall Slumps By 60%
Footfall in Belfast city centre has slumped by 60% compared to October last year, against the backdrop of the impact of the Primark fire at the historic Bank Buildings.
The Northern Ireland Civil Service announced a further £1.1million to help the city get back on its feet, adding to the funding allocated by the local council and Chancellor Phillip Hammond in his Budget.
The recovery pot for the fire now stands at £6m, which will finance a range of initiatives to boost shopping and visitor activity in the area and get people back on the streets and through the doors of local businesses.
Primark is set to reopen next month in Commonwealth House on Castle Street.
Some traders are still struggling despite efforts to alleviate the impact of the fire, as a safety cordon around the ruined building closed off a main thoroughfare and prevented shoppers from accessing some traders in the area.

UK-Born Limerick Fireman Compensated
An English-born firefighter has been awarded €5,000 in compensation for discrimination by Limerick City Council. An Equality Tribunal heard Martin Mannering, now living in Cappamore, Co Limerick was left a note to leave his job because he was no longer "in Middlesbrough".

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Planning has been approved for Newtownabbey's Factory of the Future sit at Global Point and the contract for pre-construction has been awarded for this key component of the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre.

Home Safety And Crime Prevention Event At Belfast City Hall
A free home safety and crime prevention advice event is to be held at Belfast City Hall on Friday, 01 March. The Belfast Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) has organised the event, which is free and will take place from 10am-1pm in Belfast City Hall. Complimentary tea, coffee and refreshments will also be provided.
