Three Arrested After Woman Assaulted With Hammer

A woman is in hospital after being assaulted in her north Belfast home by two people armed with a hammer.

The attack took place at a flat in the Victoria Parade area of the New Lodge, and was reported to police at around 8pm on Wednesday 05 December.

The victim was responding to a knock at her front door when a man and woman forced their way inside the property.

"They proceeded to assault her with what is believed to have been a hammer," PSNI Sergeant Anderson said.

"When a male occupant tried to intervene he was also assaulted."

Officers attending the scene then came under attack by youths throwing stones.

No one was injured as a result of the anti-social behaviour, but a PSNI Land Rover was damaged.

Two women, aged 25 and 31, along with a 26-year-old man have since been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences following the violent incident.

The victim's injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.
