Cave Hill Rescue Operation As Woman Slips On Rocks

A specialist rescue team was deployed to Belfast's Cave Hill on Tuesday 01 January after a walker slipped on the rocks and suffered an injury.

Fire and Rescue Service personnel, working alongside the Ambulance Service, North West Mountain Rescue Team and the PSNI managed to bring the woman, aged in her 50's, to safety.

It is understood she suffered a fractured leg.

The incident occurred at an area of loose rock below McArt's Fort on the North Belfast hill, which led to the rescue team parking their vehicles at Belfast Zoo and walking to locate the injured woman.

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said they used a specialist one-wheeled stretcher, known as a mule, to bring the walker down the hillside before transferring her into the care of the Ambulance Service.

They added: "Thankfully it was a relatively straightforward rescue and a good example of inter-agency operation working very well."
