Driver Injured As Tree Falls On Car In Belfast

A driver has been injured when a tree fell on their car in the Milltown Road area of Belfast amid a day of strong winds.

A yellow alert for gales is in place for Northern Ireland for all of today, Friday 08 December, and most of tomorrow as Storm Erik continues to sweep the country.

The incident, which had the potential to be fatal, happened near the Milltown Road's junction with the Belvoir Road.

The area is blocked in both directions and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

Firefighters had to cut the driver from the vehicle, but police said they only appeared to have suffered minor injuries.
