OFT hosts cross-border seminar in Newry
Consumer protection enforcement officers from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have discussed cross-border consumer law enforcement issues at a seminar staged by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) in Newry today.
The seminar is being described as an opportunity for enforcement officers from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment's Trading Standards Service in Northern Ireland and from the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs in the Republic of Ireland to discuss consumer issues in light of the Enterprise Act 2002, which came into force in June 2003. Cross-border consumer protection issues are of particular interest.
Colin Brown, Director of Co-Regulation, Codes and Coordination, said: "This seminar is an excellent opportunity for consumer protection enforcement officers on both sides of the border to get together with the OFT to discuss current issues and how best to use the legislation, including the Enterprise Act."
The full-day seminar included presentations by the OFT on the Enterprise Act, including recent OFT cases and enforcement action, particular issues with cross-border enforcement and the new OFT codes approval scheme as well as a chance to ask questions and discuss specific issues.
