Renewed Appeal For Witnesses After Pedestrian Killed In Toome

Police investigating a fatal collision in County Antrim over the weekend, in which a pedestrian was knocked down and killed, have issued a fresh appeal for information.

28-year-old Diarmuid McFall died after he was struck by a car at around 8.20pm on Sunday 17 March, near a service station on the Moneynick Road in Toome.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have been travelling on the road between approximately 8.00pm and 8.30pm and witnessed the incident. Anyone driving in the area with dash cam footage is urged to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1296 of 17/03/19.

Sinn Fein's MLA for south Antrim, Declan Kearney, expressed his deep sadness at the news of the tragic death earlier this week.

He commented: "I was shocked to hear that another young man Diarmuid McFall has lost his life on this stretch of the Moneynick Road, just outside Toome.

"While we don't have the full details of how this terrible tragedy occurred, the fact that another young life has been taken on our local roads in such tragic circumstances is yet another sombre reminder of the particular dangers of rural roads. I want to extend my deepest and heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Diarmuid who died as a result of this tragic accident."
