Three Rescued From Cookstown House Fire

Firefighters have rescued three people from a house fire in Cookstown this morning, Thursday 11 April.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) was alerted to the blaze in Millburn Avenue shortly after 7.15am. Four appliances rushed to the scene.

A man and a woman in their 60s were rescued from the kitchen area of the two-storey property while another man in his 30s was found in an upstairs bedroom.

All three were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and taken to hospital by ambulance.

A working some alarm is understood to have alerted one of the occupants to the fire, prompting them to raise the alarm.

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said the on-call firefighters should be commended for their swift response and actions in rescuing three individuals and providing first aid at the scene.

"We would like to remind everyone of the importance of having a working smoke alarm and to test it once a week to ensure it is working," the spokesperson added.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is now underway.
