NI Unemployment Rate Hits Record Low
Northern Ireland's unemployment rate has fallen in recent months to match the lowest on record.
According to the Labour Force Survey published today, Tuesday 16 April, the number of people over the age of 16 in the region that are out of work stands at 3%.
This is below the UK rate of 3.9%, the Republic of Ireland's rate of 5.3% and the EU rate of 6.5%.
The proportion of those in work also increased over the last quarter to a record high of 71.2%. In addition, the economic inactivity rate has fallen below the rates from the period two years ago.
Despite the progress, the number of confirmed reduces in the past 12 months (2,357) was 24% higher than previously, and the amount of proposed redundancies in the last month were the highest reported since late 2015.

Unemployment at lowest level on record
The latest labour market figures, released today, show that the unemployment rate in Northern Ireland has fallen to the lowest level on record and is now equal to the UK average. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.7% for the period June – August 2004 has fallen from 5% in the previous quarter.

The latest Labour Force Survey (LFS) estimates for February-April show a 0.4 percentage point increase in the employment rate to 71.3%.
