£2.9 million sewer scheme for Enniskillen

The Water Service is set to start work on a £2.9 million scheme to upgrade the sewerage network within the Enniskillen area.

The work, which will meet increasing customer demands and ensure compliance with European Directives, will begin in April.

Trevor Haslett, Director of Development said: "This scheme will provide Enniskillen with a sewerage network that will accommodate the current and future development needs of the town, minimise the risk of flooding and comply with European standards.

"The project involves upgrading the foul sewer capacity and providing adequate storm facilities to minimise any discharges into Lough Erne during severe rainfall and heavy storms. This scheme will involve work at six locations and Water Service has carefully programmed the work over 15 months to minimise disruption."

The locations include The Quay Pass area; The Wellington Road area/Lakeland Forum/Henry Street & The Brook; Queen Elizabeth Road/Queen Street/Anne Street & The Brook; The Riverside area; Mill Street & Factory Road; and Derrygonnelly Road.

Mr Haslett added: "The Enniskillen Sewerage Improvement Scheme is part of a major investment programme in water and sewerage infrastructure. In total over the next three years Water Service plans to invest around £590 million to upgrade infrastructure. This investment, involving over 300 water and sewerage projects, will bring benefits to customers right across Northern Ireland."

Water Service has awarded the contract of the upgrading of the existing sewerage network, to civil engineering construction company, John Graham (Dromore) Ltd.
