Pair Arrested Over Newry Hammer Assault

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an assault at a house in Newry.

A 26-year-old man was attacked with a hammer at a flat in Cleary Crescent in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 29 May.

The victim is receiving treatment in hospital.

Police later detained two suspects, aged 17 and 29, after they fled the scene at around 12.20am. They remain in custody at this time.

Detective Sergeant Connor appealed for anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the males leaving the area, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 21 of 29/05/19.

Man Charged Over Vehicle Hijacking In L'Derry
Police investigating the hijacking of a vehicle in L'Derry have charged a man with a number of offences. The 26-year-old is accused of common assault, driving whilst unfit and using a motor vehicle without insurance, in relation to a hijacking in the city on Monday 04 March. He is due to appear at L'Derry Magistrates Court today, 06 March.

'New IRA' Believed To Be Involved After Weapon Found In Co Tyrone
Police believe the 'new IRA' was involved after a suspected Armalite-type assault rifle was recovered in Strabane, Co Tyrone, on Friday. Superintendent Mark McEwan, the Derry City & Strabane District Commander said he believed the weapon, with ammunition, had been intended to be used to attcked police officers.

Guns stolen in Co Antrim assault
Police are appealing for information after a gang assaulted a man and stole his guns in Co Antrim. The masked men forced their way into the man's home in Burnbrae in Bushmills at around 1.30am on Tuesday morning. They hit the man before tying his hands behind his back and escaping with three guns.
