Couple escape injury after car plunges into river

A couple in there 50s have escaped serious injury after their car plunged into a river in North Antrim last night.

Their vehicle is believed to have careered through a fence and dropped about 10 feet into the River Bush at Ben Varden in Dervock at around 7pm on Thursday.

Luckily for the couple, they were able to escape onto the roof of the car whilst they waited for emergency services to arrive.

A spokesman for the Fire Brigade said the couple were lucky to escape alive following the incident.

River Lagan Flood Protection Works Underway
Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd has announced that flood protection refurbishment work on the River Lagan has got underway. The work costing £900k is being carried out by local building contractor Maurice Flynn and Sons who are replacing the gates at the Hilden and Lambeg river control structures on the River Lagan.

Couple escape injury after car is set alight outside home
A couple have escaped injury after a car was set alight outside the back of their home in north Belfast on Wednesday. The male occupant of the house in Brompton Park said flames were burning only feet away from the gas meter of his home after youths set fire to a car at the back door of their property.

Woman And Child Escape Injury After House Attacked In East Belfast
A woman and child have escaped injury after a gang of armed men attacked their home in east Belfast. The attack happened at a house in Fashoda Street at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, 14 February. The men, armed with hammers, smashed a number of windows at the property. A mother and her daughter were not injured, the PSNI have confirmed.
