Guidance Issued For Lisburn Half Marathon

The PSNI has issued guidance ahead of the 37th Lisburn Half Marathon, 10k and Fun Run this evening, Wednesday 19 June.

A traffic management system will be in place, with various roads closed between approximately 6.45pm and 9.30pm to facilitate the event.

The public are asked to abide by all signage and follow the direction of the signs and marshals.

The council issued the following advice for participants:

• The start line will be at Warren Park with access only from the overflow car park area. There will be no access to the start line from Salto car park.

• Allow space at the front of the start area for the fast runners. For the Half Marathon, areas will be marked according to anticipated finish times.

• The start line for the Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run is the same for each race.

Australian Pipe Band To Perform Free Concert In Ballymena

An Australian Pipe Band is set to perform a free concert in Ballymena next month.

The re-developed Harmony Hub in the County Antrim town will host Knox Grammar School from Sydney as they entertain shoppers on Friday 05 July from 4pm. The event is ahead of their competitive appearance at the 74th All Ireland Pipe Band Championships at Ballymena Academy on Saturday 06 July.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is partnering with Ballymena BID to deliver the 'preview afternoon', featuring the Aussies and the local Broughshane and District Pipe Band. There will also be some surprise 'pop-up pipers' at secret locations around the town and Q Radio will broadcast live from the town centre.

This prestigious All Ireland competition is expected to bring thousands of visitors to the town with Council and Ballymena BID keen to maximise the economic benefit. With a free shuttle service from the competition venue to Wellington Street, visitors and residents can shop and enjoy both the town and attend the event.

County Down Route To Close For Resurfacing

The Comber Road and Comber Road roundabout in Newtownards are set to close for resurfacing work this weekend.

A 240-metre section of the road will be improved, taking in the roundabout.

This £250,000 scheme will see the road and roundabout closed to traffic overnight from Sunday 23 June 2019 to Friday 28 June between the hours of 7pm and 6am.

A signed diversion will be in place via the A21 Comber Road, A22 Belfast Road, Comber, A22 Comber Road, Dundonald, A20 Upper Newtownards Road/Kempestones Road and Newtownards Town Centre.

The project is expected to be complete by 28 June, subject to favourable weather conditions.
