L'Derry Medical School Set To Progress
A planned graduate entry medical school for L'Derry is set to progress after politicians held a meeting to discuss the prospect yesterday, Thursday 27 June.
Sinn Fein welcomed a decision to acknowledge that the Magee facility does not necessarily require ministerial approval. Additional resources will be committed to finalise the business case ahead of the September deadline.
Speaking after the meeting at Stormont, at which the permanent secretary for the Department of Health discussed the need for a graduate training facility, Foyle MP Elisha McCallion said: "All party leaders were agreed on the absolute need for the medical school at Magee and for progress to be made quickly.
"There was also agreement to examine using the funding from the Inclusive Future Fund secures for the north west to finance the medical school.
"It is clear there is political agreement to see progress on this vital project and we agreed to meet again to take this forward to ensure the delivery of a medical school for the north west."
