Arrest As Taxi Driver Robbed At Gunpoint

A man has been arrested after a taxi driver was struck in the face with a gun and robbed in Antrim.

The incident took place at around 00.30 this morning, 18 July, when a driver collected two males and a female in the Ballymena Road area and took them to Junction One.

Once they arrived, the male front seat passenger brandished a firearm and demanded money from the driver before striking him in the face with the weapon.

The trio then fled the scene.

A short time later reports of a break in at a burger van in the Springfarm area and criminal damage at a shop on the Ballymena Road were received and a 20 year old man was arrested.

He remains in custody this morning.

Police have asked anyone with information which may assist their investigation to contact the Reducing Offending Unit on 101, quoting reference number 45 of 18/07/19.
