Appeal For Witnesses Following Serious Assault In Belfast

The PSNI have issued an appeal for witnesses to a serious assault in the Ravenhill area of Belfast in the early hours of Sunday 04 August.

According to reports a couple, a 40-year-old woman and 39-year-old man, were walking home at approximately 3am when they were assaulted by a group of men, believed to be aged in their 20s.

It is understood that as the couple made their way home a man they didn't know made a "derogatory and degrading" comment. The couple confronted the man but said that he then made a phone call and within minutes five other men appeared on bikes.

Both the woman and the man were attacked by the group of men. It is understood that one of the attackers stood on the woman's hands as she was beaten about the face. Both victims were treated by Northern Ireland Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital.

Police said: "We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or who may have information which can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Belfast on 101 quoting reference number 385 of 04/08/19.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
