Man Threatened With Knife During Belfast Hijacking

Police are hunting a suspect who wielded a knife in a driver's face during a car hijacking in west Belfast.

A man in his 40s was driving his grey SEAT Altea on Osman Street when he was targeted at around 10.25pm on Thursday night, 22 August.

A male dragged the driver out of the vehicle as it slowed to go over a speed bump on the road, before managing to swipe the keys from the vehicle and make an attempt to the flee the scene.

Police said a physical fight then ensued between the pair, during which the assailant produced a knife and held it towards the driver's face.

The driver then surrendered his keys and the vehicle was stolen. He was left uninjured but shaken by the ordeal.

Police said the suspect was around 5'9" or 5'10" tall, of heavy build, and wore a brown coat that covered his face.

Anyone who was in the Osman Street area and noticed any suspicious behaviour or may have dashcam footage is urged to contact detectives in Musgrave on non-emergency line 101, quoting reference CCS 2137 of 22/08/19.
