Positive Ageing Month Kicks Off In Belfast
Hundreds of senior citizens visited Belfast City Hall yesterday to kick off Positive Ageing Month at the 2019 Age-friendly Convention.
The contribution made by the city's older citizens will be celebrated throughout the month with over 200 events, classes, workshops and activities to take place in various venues.
Tuesday's annual convention, which takes place on the 01 October for International Day of Older Persons, allows over 60s to try some of the activities first hand and get a taste of what will be on offer, with highlights including the popular Slipped Disco, Silver Sunday, a big quiz and a men's health day at the Girdwood Hub.
Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor John Finucane joined in the fun with some indoor bowls practice. Belfast's first citizen officially welcomed everyone to City Hall and looked ahead to an exciting month of activity. He said: "This year's Positive Ageing Month programme is absolutely fantastic. There is such a diverse range of events and activities on offer, with something for everyone to enjoy.
"We often hear of older people dealing with issues around loneliness and social isolation. Programmes such as Positive Ageing Month provide our older citizens with an entertaining and helpful escape to enjoy with family and friends.
"Today's Age-friendly Belfast convention is a small taste of what people can expect and I would encourage all of our older citizens to pick up a booklet and get involved in what promises to be a fun-filled month of activity."
Some highlights of the programme include the hugely popular Slipped Disco, Silver Sunday and Friars Bush walks, a big quiz and a men's health day at Girdwood Hub.

Chief Constable Criticised For Not Inviting UUP To PNSI Graduation
The Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) has criticised PNSI Chief Constable, Jon Boutcher, for his failure to invite their party leader, Doug Beattie, to the PSNI Graduation Ceremony. UUP member of the Policing Board, Mike Nesbitt, said: "For the avoidance of doubt, I welcome the fact Michelle O'Neill MLA will attend in her capacity as First Minister.

A free home safety and crime prevention advice event is to be held at Belfast City Hall on Friday, 01 March. The Belfast Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) has organised the event, which is free and will take place from 10am-1pm in Belfast City Hall. Complimentary tea, coffee and refreshments will also be provided.

Murder victim close to being identified
Police investigating the murder of a Chinese woman in Belfast have travelled to China in an effort to identify her. Two detectives have travelled to the Far East to try to find the family of the woman who was found murdered in the back of a car that was stopped by police at a checkpoint in north Belfast in June.
