War Graves Damaged At Belfast City Cemetery

Detectives are appealing for witnesses amid a spate of criminal damage to war graves in Belfast.

Some 12 graves at Belfast City Cemetery have been reported as damaged since Friday 04 October.

Anyone with information or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area is urged to contact police on 101 quoting reference 592 of 07/10/19.

A number of graves have been destroyed at the newly refurbished Republican Plot at Milltown cemetery on Sunday night. Around 16 individual graves were destroyed in the attacks which have been condemned by Sinn Féin and the Belfast National Graves Association.

War Graves Damaged In Attack
War graves have been damaged and vandalised at Belfast City Cemetery. A member of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, who tends to the upkeep of war graves, has described the attacks, which left one headstone smashed and 14 others damaged, as "deeply distressing".
