Engine fire causes Lynx to make emergency landing
Two army personnel have escaped injury after their Lynx helicopter made an emergency landing on a Co Antrim beach at the weekend.
The Army blamed an engine fire for the emergency landing of the Lynx aircraft on West Strand beach in Portrush at around 11am on Saturday.
A number of people of who were on the beach at the time for the Irish National Surfing Championships also escaped injury in the incident.
Eyewitnesses described how they saw smoke billowing from the back of the helicopter as it circled above the sea before making an abrupt landing on the sand.
The helicopter had been on a training flight between Ballykelly and Aldergrove at the time.

Microlight Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing In Newtownards
A microlight pilot had to make an emergency landing in a field in Co Down following an engine failure. Emergency services and police attended the scene, close to the Moate Road, between Comber and Newtownards, this morning, 08 July. The pilot landed safely and neither he or the passenger on board was hurt.

Birds Bring Ryanair Jet To Crashing Halt
All 166 passengers on a commuter Ryanair plane had to be evacuated down emergency chutes this morning at Rome's main airport after what is thought to have been multiple bird strikes. Two cabin crew and eight passengers were taken to a local hospital complaining of minor injuries after the emergency chutes were utlilised in exting the aircraft.

City Airport forced to close following emergency landing
Belfast City Airport was forced to close for two hours today after a light aircraft made an emergency landing because of undercarriage failure. The plane, a privately owned Cessna, was forced to land heavily after its undercarriage failed on a return flight from Paris.
