NI Unemployment Hits Record Low

Northern Ireland's unemployment rate has hit a record low of just 2.5%.

Figures for the three months between July and September also demonstrated that the amount of people in employment was at 72.3%, its highest on record.

The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency published the findings in their most recent Labour Force Survey (LFS).

The latest employment rate recorded for the whole of the UK was 76%, with Northern Ireland still having the second lowest employment rate among the 12 UK regions.

There were 84 proposed redundancies and 82 confirmed redundancies notified to the Department in October 2019. The number of confirmed redundancies (3,096) in the most recent 12 months was higher than the previous 12 months (2,742).

Median gross weekly earnings for full-time employees in Northern Ireland stand at around £535, £50 lower than the UK median and an increase of £16.80 over the year.

PRONI Releases '83/'84 Records
Previously secret records relating to Northern Ireland history and politics in 1983 and 1984 are now available online. Over 200 documents have been added to the Conflict Archive on the INternet (CAIN) website as part of ongoing work between the University of Ulster and the Public Record Office (PRONI).

New Public Record Office To Be Built
Belfast’s Titanic Quarter is set to be the location of a new state of the art Public Record Office, it has been revealed. Culture Minister Edwin Poots made the announcement today while visiting the new site, which is adjacent to the Gateway building at the entrance to the Titanic Quarter.

UK bird numbers at their lowest since records began
Bird numbers across Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK have stabilised – but are at their lowest point since record keeping began. This is the verdict of the 2003 report State of the UK's Birds, published today by three bird conservation charities: the RSPB, Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and the British Trust for Ornithology.

Employment levels in NI reach a new high
Employment in Northern Ireland has risen to a record high and the unemployment rate remains below the UK average, according to new figures. Seasonally adjusted figures for the period January to March 20074 estimate there were 776,000 people in employment in Northern Ireland – the highest figure on record.
