Shop Local This Christmas

With less than a month until Christmas, shoppers are being urged to visit local businesses for as many purchases as possible.

Green Party Councillor Stephen Dunlop is encouraging members of the public to support their local community throughout the festive period, whether it be for gifts, decorations or the Christmas dinner grocery shop.

The Bangor Central representative said: "I'd encourage everyone to get into their local town centre and support our independent retailers and business owners this Christmas.

"Shopping habits have changed and online shopping is handy for many people particularly for anyone struggling to get out and about.

"However, it's about balance and a few hours around local shops and maybe a coffee afterwards is a great way to connect with your community.

"Indeed, people are realising that Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales from big chain stores may not be all they are cracked up to be with items often cheaper at other points in the year.

"Independent retailers are part of our community and they are people with families and community connections."

Cllr Dunlop concluded: "Let's give our local, independent businesses our support this Christmas."
