Gun attack on home of Adair's nephew

The north Belfast home of Johnny Adair's nephew Mark Adair has been hit by a number of gunshots.

The attack occurred at around 7.30pm last night when five shots were fired at the property.

Neither Mark Adair nor his partner were in the house at the time. It is believed that a loyalist faction may have been behind the incident.

Police have appealed for information on the attack and want to speak to anyone who saw a red car in the vicinity of Summer Street at around the time of the shooting.

Ulster Unionist Councillor Chris McGimpsey described the attack as a murder attempt, and said that the last thing Belfast needed was a resumption of a loyalist feud in the Shankill area.

Last year, Johnny Adair's family and a number of other associates were forced to flee Northern Ireland following a bitter internal feud between loyalists.

Released on licence under the auspices of the Good Friday Agreement Johnny Adair was returned to prison by the Northern Ireland Secretary of State in January 2003 for breaches of the terms of his licence.
