East Belfast Security Alert 'Nothing Untoward'

A security alert that closed a busy road in east Belfast on Thursday evening has been declared as "nothing untoward".

Residents on the Belmont Road were evacuated from their homes after a suspicious object was discovered under a vehicle at Strathearn School.

It's understood to have been found under a teacher's car.

Police cordoned off the road while ATO officers examined the object which was later declared safe.

The route has since reopened and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.

Police have thanked members of the public for their patience.

A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with a drug seizure in Lurgan. Suspected Class B drugs, with an estimated street value of £80,000, were found inside a house on Gilford Road by officers who had responded to a report of an incident at the address.

The search is continuing for a convicted sex offender who is unlawfully at large in England. NI man James Taggart is described as 5'7", slim build (around 63.5 kg), short light brown hair with receding hairline, short brown full beard, blue eyes and speaks with a Fermanagh accent.
