Creative Learning Centre to launch in Belfast

Studio ON, a new Northern Ireland Creative Learning Centre, is to be launched in Belfast on Monday.

A first for Northern Ireland and the UK, Studio ON is an accessible and interactive Centre for training and experimentation in creative learning, new media and the arts.

Studio ON will work with students and teachers, young people and youth workers to offer training, workshop and production projects in different moving image media technologies which complement the curricula of both sectors.

The Centre, which evolved as the result of a unique partnership between the South Eastern Education and Library Board and the Derry-based Nerve Centre, represents an unprecedented fusion of the formal and non-formal sectors.

Based on the former site of the O’Neill Memorial Primary School, 2 School Road, Crossnacreevy, Belfast, Studio ON will be officially opened by the Academy Award-winning film director and Chair of the British Film Institute, Sir Anthony Minghella.

The launch event will feature three workshops in computer animation, claymation and special effects make-up along with examples of productions which have been completed by local schools working with Studio ON.
