Two Arrested As Cannabis Seized In Co Antrim

Two men have been arrested amid police searches into the activities of the south east Antrim UDA.

Herbal cannabis worth around £4,000, a quantity of suspected class A drugs, a number of shotgun cartridges and a quantity of cash were seized during the operation in Carrickfergus on Wednesday.

Two men aged 41 and 75 were arrested on suspicion of a number of drugs offences.

Detective Inspector O'Neill said: "Today's operation proves our continued determination to disrupt the criminality activity of organised criminals who badge themselves as paramilitaries and is another step in our ongoing commitment to preventing dangerous drugs from ending up in local communities. The substantial quantity of drugs seized today highlights the continuing hypocrisy of those who claim to be protecting the community, while in fact they are actually causing it harm."

Police would encourage anyone with information about the illegal supply of drugs or organised crime in their area to contact detectives on 101.
