Cash Stolen In Co Down Burglary

A sum of cash has been stolen from a house in Portaferry, Co Down.

Police are appealing for information following the burglary on Monday evening, 09 March.

Entry was forced to the property in the Ballyblack Road area sometime between 2pm and 7pm that day. The owners returned to discover a quantity of money had been taken.

Detective Constable Shivers said: "Our enquiries are continuing, and I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the Ballyblack Road area between 2pm and 7pm on Monday, and saw any suspicious activity, or any vehicles being driven in a suspicious manner to get in touch with our detectives in Bangor on 101, quoting reference number 1644 of 09/03/20."

A man aged in 90s was left in need of treatment for smoke inhalation after two arson attacks in Downpatrick. Police are probing a link between two deliberate ignitions in the Killough Walk and Vianstown Heights area of the town, less than a mile from each other, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Co Antrim firm fined following construction site death
A Co Antrim building firm have been prosecuted following the death of a construction worker at a site in Coleraine in 2001. J. Kennedy and Co (Contractors) Ltd were fined £25,000 following the incident in which during a lifting operation a bale of steel reinforcing mesh fell on top of two workers at a building site in Coleraine.

Man Attacked With Hammers & Knives In Co L'Derry
A man has been hospitalised for treatment after he was assaulted by up to seven masked assailants in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry. The gang forced their way into the home in Ashgrove Park at around 9.20pm on Tuesday 17 March. It's reported the victim was attacked with hammers and knives before his attackers fled in a dark-coloured BMW.
