£40k Cannabis Seized In Paramilitary Probe

A man has been arrested and cannabis worth £40,000 seized after two parcels destined for an address in Northern Ireland were intercepted.

Detectives from the Paramilitary Crime Task Force made the arrest amid a probe into the activities of the east Belfast UVF.

Two parcels were found to contain suspected cannabis when intercepted on Wednesday 11 March. The labelled destination was searched later on Wednesday, where a 32 year-old was detained.

The man is suspected of attempting to possess a class B drug with intent to supply.

Detective Inspector Hamilton said: "We continue to target paramilitaries, intent on supplying drugs and causing significant harm within our communities and I would urge anyone keen to assist us in our efforts to report any information they have to police on 101."
