679 New Covid-19 Cases Confirmed

Ten further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland, bringing the death toll to 740.

The latest Department of Health figures also show 679 new confirmed cases in the past 24 hours.

Approximately 418 Covid-19 patients are currently in hospitals across the region, with 50 in intensive care and 42 requiring ventilation.

Funding Boost For Local Irish Language Community Groups

A funding package of £1.2 million has been put forward to support local Irish Language community groups who have experienced wage and income losses as a result of COVID-19.

Conradh na Gaeilge will deliver half of that funding, £610,000, and the other half will be delivered to Irish language centres through An Ciste Infheistíochta Gaeilge.

Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has welcomed the announcement, adding: "COVID-19 has undoubtedly had a devastating impact on society including the Irish language sector. This funding will help support Irish language community groups financially by helping to address wage and income losses. 

"Conradh na Gaeilge will facilitate this funding aimed at community groups through two schemes, the SPG+ Relief & Relaunch Fund 2020-2021 (Covid19) - £460,000 and the Community Events Fund: Towards Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia 2021 - £150,000."

Applications for the Conradh na Gaeilge funds will be open from today, 04 November until 5pm on 02 December.

Comharchiste Covid is now open for online applications and closes on 02 December, details on eligibility, guidance and applications are available at www.ciste.ie.

Westlink Closed Following Fuel Spill

Belfast's Westlink has been closed after a large fuel spill on Wednesday afternoon, 04 November.

The route is closed M1 bound from York Street, with long delays reported.

Motorists have been advised to seek an alternative route.

New Strategy's For Irish And Ulster-Scots Languages
