Applications To Open For AQE 2021/22 Entrance Assessment

The exams body Association for Quality Education (AQE) has announced applications for the 2021/22 Entrance Assessment will open on Tuesday, 25 May.

AQE said it has engaged extensively with its 34-member grammar schools and through them, a large number of primary schools to ensure its plans reflect the needs of schools and pupils.

The test papers will be held on the following dates: 

• Saturday 20th November 2021
 

• Saturday 27th November 2021
 

• Saturday 4th December 2021.

Results will be based on the two best papers out of three, to allow each child to have an "off day without it impacting their results", AQE has said. 

The assessments will follow the same general format as past papers.

Primary School Closed During Security Alert In South Belfast
A primary school has been forced to close following a security alert in south Belfast. Police and army bomb disposal experts are currently at the scene. Finaghy Primary School has been closed to all pupils and staff. There are no further details at this stage.

Investigation Launches After Burning Car Abandoned On Railway Track
An investigation has launched after a burning car was abandoned on a railway track near Bellarena. The incident happened at around 7.45pm on Monday, 12 April, and the train driver was forced to make an emergency stop. The line was closed following the incident, however it has since reopened.

Northern Ireland farmers are set to receive a total of £3.6million in reimbursement payments from the European Commission, Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots has announced. The financial discipline mechanism was created to ensure that Direct Payments do not exceed the EU budget limit.

Man Arrested Over Incident At McDonald's In Belfast
A man has been arrested in connection with an incident at McDonald's in Belfast city centre. The arrest was made following an altercation between the man and a security guard at McDonald's on Castle Place. It is understood the man had been asked to leave the restaurant and began arguing with the guard and the situation escalated into a fight.

Motorcyclist Dies In Ballycastle Road Collision
A motorcyclist has died following a two-vehicle road crash near Ballycastle. The collision between a Kawasaki motorbike and Cherokee Jeep happened on Wednesday, 02 June, on the Cushendall Road near the town. The man riding the motorbike was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cushendall Road was closed, however it has since been reopened.
