Four companies bid for £100m road package

Four consortia have been invited to tender for the first package in a £100 million road scheme.

Highway Management (NI), Mowlem – Laing Consortium, Northern Roads Group and Premier Infrastructure will compete for the Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) package, launched by Minister of State, John Spellar, in January, which includes improvements to the M1/Westlink, M2 between Sandyknowes and Greencastle and provision of slip-roads onto the M2 at Antrim Area Hospital.

The successful bidder will also be required to operate and maintain some 60km of the motorway and trunk road network for a period of 30 years.

Commenting on the calibre of the consortia, Roads Service, Chief Executive

Dr Malcolm McKibbin said: “I am delighted with the quality of consortia we have selected to be invited to tender for this project. The consortia combine the best of local expertise with a wealth of knowledge of DBFO from around the world.”

It is anticipated that work on the M1/Westlink scheme will commence in early 2006.

Electronic Travel Authorisation Scheme Threatens Tourism Growth
