29-Year-Old Woman Held In Connection With Baby's Death In North Belfast

A 29-year-old woman is being held by police on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in connection with an "incident' in north Belfast on Tuesday 27 July.

Responding to a house on Brompton Park shortly after 8pm police discovered two injured children. Both were urgently treated by emergency service, but one child, now described as a baby, was was pronounced dead at the scene. The second child was taken to hospital for further treatment and is said to be in a critical condition.

In a statement released by police, Detective Chief Inspector Millar from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Major Investigation Team said: "Police were called to the house shortly after 8pm last night and discovered the injured baby and another injured child in the house. Despite the efforts of the emergency services the baby was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The other young child was taken to hospital and remains in intensive care.

"A 29 year woman who was also in the house has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in custody at this time. Our thoughts are with the baby's family, who are being supported by Family Liaison Officers.

"While our investigation is at any early stage I can confirm that at this stage, we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this tragic death. I would like to thank the local community for the support that they have provided and would appeal to anyone with any information that can assist our investigation to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 1787 27/07/21."

Woman Charged With Murder Of Baby In Belfast
A 29-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of a baby boy in north Belfast. The child, who police identified as Liam O'Keefe, was killed in an incident at Brompton Park on Tuesday 27 July. Police arrived at the house shortly after 8pm that evening were two children were found injured.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Man Arrested In Connection With 1992 Police Officer Murder
A 59-year-old man has been arrested at Birmingham Airport in connection with a fatal mortar attack in Newry in 1992. The man was arrested on Wednesday, 21 February by detectives from PSNI's Legacy Investigation Branch, investigating the murder of Constable Colleen McMurray and the attempted murder of her colleague in 1992.

Child Dies & Baby Injured In Larne Incident
A child has died and a baby and woman have been injured following an incident in Co Antrim. Police and emergency services established a presence at a house on the rural Bankhhall Road outside Ballycarry on Monday morning, where it's reported a stabbing had taken place. The woman, aged in her 30s, and a baby were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police launch murder inquiry into Fermanagh baby's death
Police have today revealed that they are launching a murder inquiry following the death of a baby boy in in Irvinestown, County Fermanagh. It is understood that the infant was found dead last Thursday, however, police have not yet revealed the cause of death.
