IFA reorganises in return for £8m aid package

The Irish Football Association (IFA) has agreed to accept an £8 million package from government to help move the game forward in Northern Ireland.

The money, which has been available for two years now, will go towards developing the game in Northern Ireland from the grassroots and upwards.

Last night's meeting, which involved 55 Irish FA members will see the IFA and Irish League authorities amalgamate into one exclusive body.

The new organisation will be run by a 17-person board with two new external members.

One of these roles, that of chief executive, which was one of the conditions in getting the money from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, will be advertised externally.

IFA President, Jim Boyce said he was "absolutely delighted" with last night's decision.

''This has been a long, hard process, and thankfully we have reached a conclusion," he added.
