Protocol 'Greatest Threat To Political And Economic Stability'

The Protocol is the "greatest threat to the political and economic stability of Northern Ireland", the DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has said in an address to the Cambridge Union.

Sir Jeffrey said: "(The Protocol) undermines and damages the delicate balance of relationships on these islands, which have been the agreed template for progress in Northern Ireland.

"Not a single elected representative of the Unionist Community in Northern Ireland supports or endorses the Protocol.

"The damage it is causing is being felt in every corner of, and by every community in, Northern Ireland.

"As Lord Frost said today, the negotiations must deal with the problems caused by the Protocol and remove the burdens forced upon businesses and communities in Northern Ireland by the Irish Sea Border.

"Time is of the essence in finding a resolution. Only by removing the Irish Sea Border can Northern Ireland continue to move forward."
