295 Drink And Drug Related Arrests Made In December - PSNI

A total of 295 arrests were made for drink and drug driving offences over the festive period, according to figures from the PSNI.

Officers carried out a total of 6,699 preliminary breath tests between 01 December 2021 and 01 January 2022.

According to police, 15 more arrests were made this year than the previous year. One of the arrests involved a 16-year-old, who police said "shouldn't have been driving on the road, let alone driving under the influence".

Chief Insp Graham Dodds is reported to have said that the highest reading detected during the campaign was 124mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - the legal limit is 35mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Man Arrested For Headbutting Female Police Officer
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Newry for assaulting a police officer. While responding to a domestic related report, a local female officer was headbutted to the head, which caused swelling and bruising. The officer was seen by medical staff and her injuries were not more serious and she felt well enough to remain on duty.

Appeal Following Arson Attack In South Belfast
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following an arson attack at a property in south Belfast. At approximately 10.20pm on Saturday, 13 April, police received a report of a fire at a house in the Kilburn Street area. Police attended the scene alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.

Three In Hospital After Police Vehicle Collides With Another Vehicle
Two police officers and a civilian remain in hospital following a collision in Newry on Saturday, 13 April. It is understood that the police officers were travelling in a police vehicle to attend a separate incident at about 7.30pm when they collided with another vehicle on the Fathom Road.

Police Investigate Armed Robbery At Ballycastle Supermarket
An investigation has been launched following the armed robbery of a supermarket in Ballycastle on Tuesday, 09 April. It was reported to police, that at around 11pm a masked man entered the Castle Street store carrying a spray bottle of an unknown substance. The man approached a cashier and demanded money, threatening them with the spray bottle.
