Officials From French Embassy Visit Strand Road Police Station
Officials from the French Embassy have visited Strand Road Police Station in L'Derry, where they met with senior officers to discuss a range of policing issues.
On hand to welcome Home Affairs and Police Attache, Nathalie Skiba, and French Liaison Officer Philippe Colin, were Chief Inspector William Calderwood and Chief Inspector Michael O'Loan.
Chief Inspector Calderwood said the visit provided Nathalie and Phillipe the opportunity to learn about our best practices 'and what we do in our everyday job to keep people safe'.
Chief Inspector Calderwood, said: "It was a really good meeting. We discussed a number of issues, including the progress that has been made in policing, shared practices and collaborative working with partner agencies and the many shared benefits of that.
"We talked about neighbourhood policing and how that is at the heart of everything we do. They were keen to understand how we police our District, and how what we do might help them. Nathalie and Philippe were very engaging and seemed impressed by what we're doing here, and we’re delighted we were able to welcome them to our city."

Crack down on drink drivers nets 552 motorists
Police have warned that they are to be extra vigilant in a continuing crack down on drink driving in Northern Ireland. Figures for this year's winter anti-drink driving campaign have unveiled that a total of 552 motorists, 495 of which were men, were detected drink driving, an increase of 23 since the same period last year.

Sir Ronnie's appointment welcomed by Policing Board chief
The Chairman of the Northern Ireland Policing Board has welcomed the news that former PSNI Chief Constable, Sir Ronnie Flanagan, has been appointed as Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary. The appointment announced on Wednesday will see Sir Ronnie succeed Sir Keith Povey, who has been Chief Inspector of Constabulary since September 2001.
