40-Year-Old Man Charged Over North Belfast Security Alert

A 40-year-old man has appeared before Laganside Magistrates Court charged in connection with a security alert at a peace-building event in north Belfast.

The man was charged with "preparation of terrorist acts, hijacking and placing an article causing bomb hoax" in connection with an incident when a van was hijacked and the driver forced to drive, what he was told was an explosive device to the Houben Centre on the Crumlin Road where Irish Minister Simon Coveney was addressing a peace-building event. The incident also disrupted a funeral taking place at Holy Cross Church.

A 48-year-old woman also arrested in connection with the incident has since been released pending further investigation.

He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.

Appeal For Information On Serious Assault In Portadown
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a serious assault in Portadown that it being investigated as a 'disability hate crime'. On Saturday, 24 February, at around 5.20pm, police received a report that a young man had been attacked by six teenage boys in the High Street Mall area.
