PCR Testing Centres To Close

Northern Ireland's PCR testing centres will close at the end of operations today, Friday 22 April.

With the closure of testing site, PCR tests will no longer be freely available to most people, while Lateral flow tests (LFTs) will continue to be free for people displaying Covid-19 symptoms, those visiting high-risk settings and those providing close personal care.

Northern Ireland's deputy chief medical officer, Dr Lourda Geoghegan, highlighted that testing was not ending, it is being transitioned "to a more targeted and more focused approach".

Dr Geoghegan also said that the Department of Health could be "ramped up again" if needed.

WANdisco To Create Over 30 New Jobs
Live Data company WANdisco is to create over 30 new jobs as part of plans to increase capabilities at its Belfast software development centre. The company is also investing over £7million in Research and Development (R&D) and a new skills programme.

Cookstown Murder Accused Appears In Court
A 45-year-old man has appeared before Omagh Magistrates' Court charged in connection with the murder of a 77-year-old woman in Cookstown, Co Tyrone. According to reports, the elderly woman is the mother of the accused. She was found murdered in her home in Ratheen Avenue in the town on Sunday 19 June. The accused was arrested at the scene.

New Certification Officer Appointed For NI
Economy Minister Gordon Lyons has announced the appointment of Tom Evans as the new Certification Officer for Northern Ireland. Mr Evans will hold the role of Certification Officer for Northern Ireland until 14 June 2027. Minister Lyons said: "I am delighted that Tom Evans has accepted the role as the Certification Officer for Northern Ireland.
