Hotel investment to create 60 jobs

Local hoteliers have commenced work on a new £3.7 million 40-bedroom three-star hotel in Co Antrim.

The Dunsilly project, by husband and wife team Eugene and Catherine McKeever, will create a Comfort branded hotel with the creation of up to 60 full and part time jobs.

The McKeevers currently run Corr’s Corner Hotel, Newtownabbey and the Balmoral Hotel, Belfast and previously owned and operated Granagh House, Randalstown and the Wild Duck Restaurant in Portglenone.

The Comfort Hotel, Antrim will target the short break and corporate markets, as well as servicing the needs of the local market. The Northern Ireland Tourist Board has endorsed the proposal indicating that the project shows a good fit with the needs of visitors to Northern Ireland.

Commenting on the project which is being supported by Invest NI, Leslie Ross, Managing Director of Business International in Invest NI, said: “Invest NI is committed to helping tourism businesses grow, improve product quality, business processes and their capability to compete competitively in the national and global market place.

"This project will add to the stock of internationally branded hotels in Northern Ireland and will provide economic benefit by attracting visitors from outside the region.

“The McKeevers are a highly experienced management team with a strong track record and they have a clear vision for the positioning of the hotel in the local and national market places.”

Work has started on the new hotel is scheduled to be completed in May 2005.
