CCP Gransden Win International Innovation Award

Ballygowan-based CCP Gransden has won a JEC Innovation Award through Project Tucana.

CCP Gransden operates a highly-productive aerospace-grade manufacturing facility that is capable of perhaps the UK's widest selection of advanced composite manufacturing processes in-house.

At the Composites UK awards in 2020 CCP Gransden's innovation developed with an aerospace prime was runner up. In 2021 at the Composites UK awards CCP Gransden were pleased to have supported an automotive prime to first place. And CCP Gransden have now just won a JEC Innovation Award through Project Tucana. Recognition several years in a row at the key national and international awards in the composites industry demonstrates an ever-growing respect for CCP Gransden as an innovative firm that delivers solutions.

A JEC award is one of the most prestigious international awards in the composites industry. Project Tucana -led by Jaguar Land Rover- was selected over a range of projects from across the world including notable entries by BASF Corporation and BMW AG who were the runners up in the category.

Project Tucana was led by Jaguar Land Rover and saw the rear body structure of the Jaguar I-PACE redesigned to increase vehicle stiffness by 30% per cent and cut its weight by 35kg.

Funded by BEIS through Innovate UK and delivered via the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK, Project Tucana brought together world-leading academic and industry partners to develop lightweight structures for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) using advanced, lightweight composites.

Jaguar Land Rover is the UK's largest automotive manufacturer, built around two iconic British car brands. Project Tucana has an important part to play as part of Jaguar Land Rover's reimagine strategy which aims to make future vehicles lighter to prevent over 4.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions between 2023 and 2032.

CCP Gransden are looking forward to the award being presented at the upcoming JEC World show next week in Paris.

At the show (May 3-5 2022) CCP Gransden will be demonstrating a rear-header part developed for the award-winning Project Tucana. This part will be showcased by us in Hall 6 -JEC PLANET MOBILITY (Aero, Automotive, Land transportation, Marine, UAVs).
