Michael Long To Become Lord Mayor For Three Week Term
Alliance Party councillor Michael Long is to be declared the new Lord Mayor of Belfast for just three weeks – the shortest term of office in the city's history.
According to reports, it will also be the first time the spouse of a former Lord Mayor has been given the position – with Naomi Long, Mr Long's wife having previously holding the office in 2009.
Mr Long is replacing Kate Nicholl, whose has left the office early – her term was due to end on 1st June – as she was elected as a new MLA.
East Belfast Fire 'Attempt To Endanger Life'
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information on a suspected arson attack in east Belfast.
Police have described the fire at a flat in the Grace Avenue area in the early hours of Sunday morning as an "attempt to endanger life".
It is understood that there was no-one on the flat at the time of the fire.
Anyone with information about the incident, in particular anyone with dashcam or any other type of footage to come forward, is asked to contact police.
Fire At Derelict Hospital In L'Derry
Some 35 firefighters and four fires engines were at the scene of a blaze at a derelict hospital building at Gransha Park, Co L'Derry.
The first was first reported at about 7.30pm on Sunday 8th May.
Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said that while the operation was "hampered" by hazardous materials, the fire was brought under control in the early hours of Monday morning.
A number of firefighters remain at the scene. An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Fourteen Sentenced In East Belfast UVF Investigation
The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of thirteen men and one woman in connection with an investigation into suspected criminality linked to the East Belfast UVF by the Paramilitary Crime Task Force. The defendants were sentenced over the five-week period, from 11 January to 16 February, at Belfast Crown Court.

In 2019, residents of the Belfast city centre apartment blocks at Victoria Square were forced out of their homes with no compensation after structural defects were discovered.
