JJ Abrams Series To Be Filmed In Belfast 'Cancelled'

A major television series due to be made in Belfast by Star Wars director JJ Abrams has been "cancelled" over budget issues.

According to reports, all crew already working on pre-production on the series Demimonde at Belfast's Titanic Studios have been "stood down" after broadcaster HBO rejected the Directors requested budget of more than $200 million.

It is understood that Abrams production company Bad Robot had been in negotiations with HBO, who won a bidding war against Apple for the show, but ultimately HBO has decided not to proceed.

Northern Ireland Screen has said that securing the production for NI has been a "big coup" and that it was "extremely disappointed" that production has now stopped.

It is now expected that the show will be shopped to other broadcasters like Apple and Netflix.
