Appeal For Information On Ards Shooting Incident

The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a shooting incident in Newtownards.

According to police, shortly before 11.30pm on Thursday two shots were fired at the front door of a flat in the town.

It is understood that whoever fired the shots had tried to force their way into the property.

A man and a woman, both aged in their 20s, were in the flat the time of the attack but were uninjured.

Anyone who might have information about the incident is asked to contact police.

Ministers Urged To Convene Joint Housing Summit

The UUP have called on the Communities and Infrastructure Ministers to jointly convene a housing summit in response to the housing crisis.

Making the call, East Belfast Ulster Unionist Party MLA and Communities Spokesperson Andy Allen said: "Northern Ireland has been experiencing a housing crisis for some time now, with many people giving up on a broken system. As of March 31st, there were 44,426 applicants on the housing waiting list, and many more have been taken off due to not replying to a renewal reminder each year.

"Urgent action is required to lay the foundations towards being able to build at least 5,000 new homes per year to address the worsening housing crisis. I have engaged with many people who work in the housing sector and they are certainly up for the challenge, but the question is, are our Ministers?

"It is simply unacceptable that most people on the housing waiting list have little or no prospect of being offered a home. That needs to change and the only way for this to happen is by Government challenging itself and working with the sector to make it happen."

SF Calls For Action To Help Health Service In NI

Sinn Féin's John Finucane has said that work could begin immediately to invest an extra £1 billion to fix the health service if the DUP ends its boycott of the Executive.

Supporting the call from the Royal College of Nurses for an immediate restoration of the Executive, the North Belfast MP said: "I fully support the call of our nurses, who risked their lives and health in the front lines in the fight against the pandemic, for an Executive to be formed immediately so that we can start to fix our health service.

"The DUP should listen to the voices of these front line workers.

''Sinn Féin stands ready to work with others to invest an extra £1 billion to tackle lengthy waiting lists, hire more doctors and nurses and fund vital cancer and mental health services.

''If the DUP was serious about making health a priority, as they promised the public during the election campaign, they will end their boycott of the Executive and join with the rest of us who want to make politics work.

"Sinn Féin is ready to get down to business today to start investing in the health service and deliver the real change that people voted for."
