Community business project opens in Forkhill
A £555,000 community project comprising retail/office units and a light industrial unit has been officially opened in Co Armagh.
The Forkhill scheme, funded by the Community Regeneration and Improvement Special Programme (CRISP), will assist economic and physical regeneration in the Co Armagh village.
The project was promoted and developed by the Forkhill and District Development Association, which had the vision to bring a derelict site into economic use to stimulate the regeneration of Forkhill.
Congratulating the Association Alan Shannon, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Social Development, said: "It is testimony to your vision, drive and determination that you have now achieved your goal. And it is a measure of the success of the scheme that the units are 92% occupied. A fact which must give you great satisfaction."
Mr Shannon also thanked the International Fund for Ireland, Newry and Mourne District Council and the Ulster Community Investment Trust who were partners in the project.
The Community Regeneration and Improvement Special Programme (CRISP) which is jointly funded by the Department and the International Fund for Ireland provides funding for community-led property redevelopment in designated towns and villages of less than 10,000 population.
The regeneration plan for Forkhill has benefited from a £790,000 CRISP package funded by the Department for Social Development and the International Fund for Ireland, with DSD contributing £289,500, with additional assistance from Newry and Mourne District Council and the Ulster Community Investment Trust (UCIT).

Fertility Treatment Gets Major Cash Boost
Extra funding for specialised fertility treatment is expected to lead to waiting times for NI patients to be cut dramatically. Those due to begin IVF treatment will soon see a reduction from 18 months to one year maximum waiting, with the aim being to allow more than one 'cycle' of treatment as soon as funds become available.

Some 107 projects are to be funded through the Living Places and Spaces grant scheme, Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon has announced. £750,000 was available for the scheme, which was delivered by The National Lottery Community Fund, from the Minister’s £20million Blue Green Infrastructure Fund.
